V přísně tajné vojenské laboratoři se skupina brilantních mladých vědců dostane na samotný práh objevu neviditelnosti. Ctižádostivý šéf týmu Sebastian Caine (Kevin Bacon) se rozhodne podstoupit obrovské riziko a otestovat neviditelnost na vlastní kůži. Pokus ovšem neprobíhá podle optimistických předpokladů, navíc jeho důsledky jsou zřejmě nevratné. Stejně dramatickou proměnou jako tělo prochází i Sebastianova mysl. Moc, pramenící z neviditelnosti, boří všechny civilizační zábrany a z talentovaného vědce se rychle stává nevypočitatelné monstrum.
